I am going to plant about 5 ac of clearfield sunflowers. They are going into a fallow field that's been mowed for some time. The field is mostly grass and a little white clover. It's my buddy's property and he's providing the seed / fert / spray. I just have to get it done! (retired)
I am planting them with a JD7000 no-till planter. We are going to spray burndown of glyphosate. I'm afraid to add another chemical to it, do to the short planting window. The field is mainly grass / clover, few broadleafs. I am also interested in a pre emergent spray, but don't know which chemical or timing. Also, I know a soil test is best, but I'm against a wall with time. I'm guessing the grass has used up any available Nitrogen. General fert recommendation on where to start? Also, suggested seed population for a hunting plot.
He just sprung this project on me, so I don't have much time to research or plan with the maturity time needed before season.
