Sumac

Anyone ever grown sumac from seed? Any issues with doing so? Anyone have any aromatic sumac seed?

I have all kinds of smooth bark sumac, seems to spread like crazy if not cut back. My guess is that you'll have some success planting this but probably need way more seed.

Cutting it back doesn't slow it down much either.

Staghorn is listed as aromatic at Coldstream. I don't know much of anything about sumac. Just passing along info. If the seed project doesn't pan out, looks like you can get seedlings pretty cheap from Coldstream.

My wife planted staghorn around our deck and I couldn't keep the deer out of it last fall. It held it's green leaves pretty late. I chased 5 deer out of it early evening. Got up the next morning and all the leaves were eaten.

May have to get a little of that in the rotation next spring. I'll try a half dozen of anything.
