Stuck choke tube

man, I guess I've been lucky, never had a choke tube stick once, and I've put my shotgun thru hell a few times

For those following this thread, in the future you might try diesel fuel. It may require soaking for a month or more. I've freed up seemingly impenetrable stuck chokes and blackpowder breech plugs using this method and a month (or more).

Glad you got it out OK. I second using a little anti-seize.

I have had good luck using choke tube grease on threads when changing. It helps prevent them from working loose when shooting, but also helps prevent them from locking in place.

I also have switched to exposed/extended choke tubes rather than the ones that sit flush in the barrel.

Good observation i'm no expert, but it makes sense to be a root cause of the failure

Incredibly detailed observation Telemark! There is a little ding on the end that I'd attribute to over-tightening. Doesn't seem like enough to allow gas escape, but I dunno...maybe? I think I'm retiring this tube and just ordered a Carlsons extended tube as a replacement. Still working on rust removal inside the barrel.

Good luck with it. Choke tubes always make me nervous. The amount of pressure they are subjected to is incredible, and I am truly surprised there aren't more failures.

I recently started shooting lead-free shot exclusively, so I'm especially cautious about my choke tubes.

Thread grease for breech plugs might help.Blaster really surprised me on the projects I have used it. It is better than anything I have used.

Telemark, I believe thereis some steel specific chokes out there. Shooting steel or bismuth? Used to use larger shot so it would pass through pheasants and grouse more often than not pass. #4 shot usually.

NY has a law require non-lead ammo on state lands. Do it with deer. Don't mind complying with 22lr, but need to find a solution. Thats when I bump into the game warden most often. I'm the only one around on his boring slow january day.......

Used to shoot a citori 12ga with fixed choke mod/IC for trap, skeet, and hunting. Now I am down to just a 20ga mossberg with a fixed full choke.
