Maybe you can explain to me why most of the robotics used on assembly lines in this country are from Asian countries. Can we not make them here or maybe we don't want to?
How about the CNC machining centers to make those robots? Why are they made in Asian countries?
When I built my cabin eight years ago I bought a new circular saw, framing nailer, air compressor, and SCMS. None of them made in the USA. Assembled here maybe but not of American made components. Why not? Because we can't compete.
I think the USA can do just fine on a level playing field. We have not had a level playing field for 50 years....as we watched industry after industry go offshore due to lower wages, lower energy costs, and less regulations. I think some of our democratic "freinds" could use a little education on what has transpired (you dumb son's a bitches - and that is putting it mildly) .
I used to really like my job at an aluminum company. That company....and many other prime aluminum companies were "forced" to offshore their production due to the high energy prices in the USA, the lower labor costs, and the extreme regulations placed on their production.
IF the USA would have provided the infrastructure (lower power costs via more aviailability). and reduced some of the regulations to more reasonable levels, I think the productivity of USA labor would compete well with the competing nations (like china). But folks like Al Gore and Bill Clinton were hell bent on getting those other countries to do these things. Now, we lost MANY of our basic industries due to these policy's. Hope Trumps plan will bring many back. MAGA.
Anyone remember the "huge sucking sound" that was foretold by Ross Perot in a presidential debate with Bill Clinton? He was 100% right.....and that was a HUGE turning point for America. To follow, was the demise of so many great American made products......and the growth of WalMart and all the similar import companies. That was the breaking point....IMO. The USA basically gave industry after industry to foreign interests.....and forced many American companies to "offshore" their production.
In the case of aluminum....the electrical power costs to make aluminum are the largest element involved. Much of the Bonneville power authority was built to especially include the energy needed by the aluminum industry as it built many pot-lines along the coast in Washington (relatively cheap hydro-electric power). These companies could then ship bauxite (from Australia) to their coastal ports at these locations along the coast and use the high levels of electrical power created by the Bonneville. They basically paid for these facilities. Then.....the growth of need by the increasing population on the west coast and our "conservation" efforts, and policies to not increase our electric production, basically drove industrial production away....as the power was needed for the west coast (residential) consumers. Lots of aluminum production went to Canada, and Norway grew their production (Norsk Hydro power) .....and lots more went offshore to China. I do not think a single aluminum pot line exists in Washington state now....but it was the holy grail of aluminum production in the 70's and 80's. Huge plants....that employed many good paying jobs. Huge of losses due to USA policy on energy and lack of management on environmental issue. Spotted Owl syndrome. IMO
Some of us were there....and didn't just fall off the back of the onion truck.
