Spartan cameras

Whatever you do, don't buy a Covert. If you still want to, I have 3 I'll sell cheap!

No I guess I will wait and see if Reconyx brings one out at ATA in January

I was just wondering why so many failures in such a shory time span. Thats why i asked. Waiting to hear back from customer service

That is not uncommon with the cheap Chinese produced cameras. They have very high functionality for the dollar, but QC is very poor. They tend to change components inside the camera as soon as they can find one that performs the same function for a lower cost. Two folks can have the same model camera with different components inside. It is not uncommon to have bad lot come off the line or to have a new component introduced that introduces a problem into the camera that occurs under conditions never tested.

With all the inexpensive Chinese produced cameras you will find a wide variety of experience regardless of how they are branded.

Thanks,

Jack

i have 4 of them and like them. I'm a little frustrated as a couple of the spots where they've "gotta be" have bad cell service, so the pics I get are spotty at best, but when I pull the card, they're all there.

My buddy has the cuddelinks and really likes them. I'd like to get some and network with him as well as put a cell function on it (he doesn't have a smart phone or the internet, so I'm pretty sure I'd have the run of all the cameras on his place too

I know there's a cuddelink thread on here, I admittedly haven't read thru it all. Are people liking those?

Yes.

Why do you need a pic sent to your cell phone?

The problem is that everyone looks for high end features in a cheap device. We think that game cams should replicate or cell phones. We want cell phone transmission, high end photography, and then all the other stupid features. Then we set them in terrible weather conditions and expect performance ... :emoji_scream:

There is a reason why the only thread on Cameras on Cuddy that is 100 pages long is that it is an unreliable camera. They were good 20 years ago ( well not really) but they are all now hype.

You can buy Bushnell or Wildgame Innovations for about $100 -$150 ... great cams with great reliability. If they don't work, throw em out ...

I wished Reconyx would come up with a affordable cell cam. All they have now is one in the 4 digit price range.
If they make a cheap cam, it will be no better than the other cheap cams. Quality isn't free.

Yes the cuddelink system works as advertised excellent for scrapes, trails, stand sights. Sounds like the powerhouse flash units are better for fields and food plots. The image quality isn’t as good as some cell units.... but... you only pay for one cell plan a month.

For me, I am running spartan cell cams on plots were I need extended range. They have better picture quality and can send hi res images at a requests notice. Cudddebacks for everything else. G series. I Like both systems though. I am also going to try stealth cams out.... nervous as heck about it. price is right on those though.

I've been using the Moultrie mobile system. I like the concept of being able to replace the camera if need be. Its worked as advertised for 1 1/2 year, low resolution pics and crappy data plan. Thinking about getting a spartan though.

I have 8 spartans. It's a love hate relationship. Seems they can be difficult to get up and running. I've had to send several back to get them working. Once they are up and running I love them. Battery life is good.

I plan on adding some cuddelinks next year for some of the closer-to-home locations. That will let me spread out the cell cams more.

I am also in the reconyx camp. There are not many trail cameras that I haven’t tried. I was quite bummed when they stopped selling the HC600. The new version is $399 but from what I have read it’s not a true no glow camera. I ran less cameras this year, checked them less, and had a better season. Not based on success though. I was surprised by a few bucks that I had no clue was in the area. It made each sit more exciting.

I’m also a Reconyx guy; would love to have some if their cell cams but can’t pony up 1k+ fir a camera. That being said I didn’t think I would ever start spending 500 on a camera until I bought my first reconyx and then I never looked back. I have 6 now and one of which is the new model (haven’t put it out yet). The Cuddelink definitely seems interesting if it works and I can keep batteries in it. One thing I love about Reconyx is that I put batteries in them once a year and they’re good for thousands of pictures.

Reconyx all the way. I haven't bought one in awhile and didn't know they stopped making the HC600. I will have to see if I can still find a few. They are by far my favorite camera and were all I would buy. I have owned or used almost everything out there and nothing compares to the Reconyx, but you do pay for it.
