Something new in my plot

Snoop

5 year old buck +
Got this plant growing everywhere in my plots. I have never seen this before. Zone 6a
I’m guessing some kind of weed.

Is the stem square? Purple dead nettle probably

I second the Purple Dead Nettle. At first thought maybe Henbit, but I don't think it is.

What Purple Deadnettle Tells You About Soil:
  • Disturbed or bare soil — it’s often a pioneer species that fills in open ground.
  • Moist, fertile soil — it prefers nitrogen-rich soils with good moisture.
  • Low competition — shows up where turf or native groundcovers are sparse.
  • Possible compaction — it can tolerate slightly compacted areas, which may indicate poor soil structure nearby.
So if you’re seeing a lot of it, your soil may be:
  • Nutrient-rich but lacking ground cover
  • Possibly compacted or disturbed in recent seasons
  • Not particularly acidic or alkaline — it tolerates a range
