Shouse

It was price again. They were on sale at Menards topped with a rebate. Took some time to finish, but they look great and we saved some $.

THANKS for posting the pics. Someday i may do this. Already have the site picked out and the lane planted with SWO. Do you spray the foam directly on the metal?

I had understood there were some design considerations regarding moisture buildup in a wall or roof of a shouse.

I like the look.

We're planning on building something similar next year and I've scoured the internet looking at ideas and what others have done. We've been calling ours a "shabin". It's going to be half shed and half living quarters. Our property is less than 15 minutes from where we live but we wanted a place to get away along with some much needed storage. That being said, we've been looking for ideas that look good that aren't real expensive but not cheap either.

Awesome thread. I had no idea what a "shouse" was :). And now gwm is buidling a "shabin". I must be behind the times ;):D.

We sprayed directly on the metal. The spray foam guy suggested that since the whole building was conditioned we wouldn't have to worry about the moisture. We tried to save money where we could (doing most of the work ourselves was obviously huge) but also tried to do some higher end finishes since we plan on being in it at least 5 years. We would like to also build our next one so we used this as a practice run. Definitely a learning experience.

Haha! Shed + House = Shouse. Sorry about that.

I am planning on building in the next few years, and I plan on doing most of it myself. I do like to counter tops as well! I am planning on making mine as energy efficient as possible.

Awesome!!!! Smart move with the foam insulation!
How did you attach your posts to your concrete?

The kit we purchased came with these brackets.

After the pad was poured we did our layout, drilled holes, and epoxied anchor bolts to the pad. Pretty slick setup.

Edit: We didn't use the bolts that came with it. My wife works construction and they had some epoxy type bolts left over from a job.

Awesome Tks!

Its fun to use Menards software to design a pole barn shell. Mine came out to $27K in materials. hehehehe. too many window and doors!

Awesome build... It will be a shame when you gut it some day to make it a garage

T-Max hope you dont take offense, but I got to tell you I love your wife!:D Saw in the pictures that she was hands on during the construction phase and then you said "My wife works construction..... " Man some of you guys have it made! Of course now when you build something we will really know who did all the work!:D Great job on your build.

I asked the same thing.....in my area words get run together and let's just say the "S" part was a bit concerning. I have a neighbor that lived essentially in an apartment built inside a morton/pole barn for a decade.....not a big deal. He later built him a home on the same lot and now uses the building for what pole buildings are for.

I wanted to do something similar when we built.....my WIFE on the other hand had a TOTALLY different opinion.......I lost!

Nice job. Looks great!

You did a really nice job with it. Thanks for sharing.

The only problem with the spray foam, is if you need to run wire at a later time, i could see it being a problem, other than that its very efficient.

Great thread. I have a cabin that is essentially stick built but I have used rib metal for all my exterior. It is insulated well with batts. My first couple years went great. Now the the mice have found there way in and I am about fed up with them. I really hate mice and their devilish ways. This past weekend I added a 10 x 26 bunkhouse addition to my cabin and I am strongly considering the spray foam insulation. As an extreme DIY'er this is a bit daunting to me and I may just have to hire it out and bite the cost bullet. Any additional info on potential solutions for DIY would be cool. Does this stuff keep the dirty rodents out?

That looks awesome!! Very nice job!
