Shooter buck?

Bszweda

5 year old buck +
This deer showed up twice in the last week. I think he's going to be a good one.

I've seen enough. Yes he's a shooter.

*i may be a little quick on the trigger at times :emoji_wink:

Only you can answer that.
I will say that I'm always amazed at the amount of shrinkage after they shed velvet.

Does mass grow during the summer or only width and height? He does look to be lacking on the mass.

IME, mass doesn't increase much as the summer progresses. Seems like as the beams grow, they are already as heavy as they will be. Same with tines. They come out of the beam at full mass but they just grow longer, not heavier.
And once the beams make their turn, the spread is as wide as it will be. It doesn't continue to widen.
I don't want to sound like a wet blanket, but it's really easy to overestimate a buck while he's in velvet. They just don't look like the same critter after they shed velvet.

My experience also. I've had some shock caused by shrinkage when the velvet came off.
Not saying it's won't be a great deer for the area. Looks like he has width and height working in his favor.

Another point...when we look at bucks from a rear angle, they always look bigger than they do at other angles. Rear, and rear quartering angles are misleading for judging antlers.

Where I am from, this buck is about as good as they come. I would not hesitate for a second to take this one!
