Scion rootstock Compatibility issues?

Folks say certain scions do not like certain rootstocks. Anybody have any experience here.

Did a few turning points on M111, none of them took. They loved siberian rootstock from SLN and did one on anty and took. Violi's did well on siberian, but not on M111. OF course hard to make a pinion based on a few example.

I grafted williams pride on M111 for a cowoker. The USDA plant repository catalog said Williams pride doesn't like M111. Looking good o far. Also, got one from turkey creek last year, seems good this year so far.
 
It does ocasionaly happen. It has been a long while since we had a compatibility issue with anything. Probably because we aren't experimenting with many new varieties currently. We know what works on the varieties we sell. I can't remember but I feel like Redfree did not like B118 or perhaps it was Pristine. Every time it would have a large knot form where the graft union was.

How about losing 3,000 trees due to Graft incompatibility????
 
I grafted a Turning point onto M111 this spring. It's been just about 4 weeks. Buds just started pushing through parafilm and showing a little green the past couple of days.
 
It seems like perry pears do not thrive on Callery rootstock.
 
Removed the graft union tape today whe I moved the root maker pots from the porch to a small fenced in area.

Was feeling so-so. 19 out of 28 grafts took. Thought I passed gafting class with a 67%..... An hour later Violi's on siberian fell right off the rootstock. Dead graft union. Made the rootstock look like a mushed up end of a wooden stake, very red bark too from the rootstock Grade 64.2%......

That Violi was dead, but did I remove the tape too soon? Grafted them end of march / first week of april.

Got a few Violi's and turning points for camp, all cosmic crisps took. Siberians that didn't take will be bird crabs. Still have a tree or two for a few friends at work.
 
I’ve never taken my grafting tape off that soon. I usually leave mine on until late august then very carefully remove so grafts can harden up.
