Released a few wild ones

I released a few wild apple trees this weekend. I don't know how, but I have had my land 12 years and have walked past these trees every time up there and never noticed them till 2 years ago. I did a little trimming around the bigger one last year and it went from producing 4 apples to around 30 last year. The smaller one had just a few apples on it this fall. They were both surrounded by tag alders. I cut the tags down all around them and made sure it was open to the south. The trees produce a strange apple that looks like a fat donut, they are not round. The closest I found were Duchess of Oldenburg just not quite as round and more green in color.

Nice! It's always fun to find neat trees on the property.
Give those two a little TLC pruning this spring and they should take right off.

That's a great find. they don't appear to have bear damage either. Perhaps they were hidden a bit when there were a bunch of trees nearby and the Bears overlooked them.

I did the same 2 years ago. I walked the 80 acres in May when the apple blossoms where is full bloom and found 4 small wild apple trees, probably blossoming for the first time. They're working for me now.
