RC Big Rock Switchgrass

Does anyone have a good source of info on this switchgrass? Soil requirements? Moisture requirements? Etc.

I want to beef up an existing piece of native grass for better standability in winter/snow. How would you go about planting switchgrass into an existing stand of native grasses?

I think all you could do is over seed and cross your fingers. Maybe kill all the grasses early with Gly before the natives wake up.

You could try mowing the existing grass down and then overseeding, but like Bill said, it's going to be tough.

Because of timing and having some extra seed, I tried doing this and I think I only ever found a few switchgrass plants in about a 4000 sq foot area.

I was afraid of that.

I could probably hay it and bale it to get the residue off then no till it in. Lot more work for me being I don’t have the haying equipment myself.

Looking like tecumseh ii is probably a better grass for my area.

So trying to broadcast existing switch grass seed into established native grasses would be throwing money down the drain?

Burn, seed, wait 2 weeks, and spray gly to take out the cool season stuff.

Just make sure you're spraying green tissue, otherwise you're throwing money away.
