Pruning young oak trees

I have 15 swamp white oak plugs that I planted from Itasca greenhouse in 2019. I thought the plugs were real poor quality when I got them. They were the only bad plugs I ever got from them. I planted them and caged them with a weed mat and a bag of mulch. Those trees have been growing pretty slow since I planted them. I have other bareroot swamp white oaks that dont seem to be growing as slowly.

Last winter I decided to prune these slow trees. I cut off about 75% of the lower limbs and other undesirable growth. I am impressed with how they have responded. After i was done I was worried that I went overboard with the pruning. Some of them had very little left, except for the central leader. As of right now I would say 100% the pruning looks like it was quite beneficial to these trees. Seemed to give them a fresh burst of energy.

I put brand new weed mats down for them and will be getting them a fresh bag of mulch. Looks like they finally wanna get their ass in gear.
