Pruned my first 8 today.

Well I pruned my first 8 trees today. The weather was great and I could not resist. Saw one tree with potential insect damage. I have seen this on the forum before but forget what causes it.

What do you think?

I will add that when I prune I always feel like there isn't enough tree left. I really don't prune a lot, but I think I leave more space between my laterals than most. When I take out water sprouts, limbs growing down from a lateral and limbs starting where I don't want a lateral to be it leaves a very open tree. I think part of it is that I keep a lot of distance between each layer of laterals. I probably keep 18 inches to 24 inches even on M-7. But, I had to put more support in the gourd today as well because I had so many apples last year the tree was too heavy and the wind wanted to blow them over.
