potted seedlings in the winter.

I have approximately 20 apple and 20 pear seedlings that i started from seed, my original plan was to use ground bags, but i ended up just gathering up 2-3 gallon pots from neighbors and friends, I plan on planting some of them this fall. What is the best way to overwinter the remaining trees? would burying the pots in one of my raised garden beds work, or should i re pot them to bigger pots before winter? or something else?

I'd say burying them in your garden beds would be the best way to go. I would just leave them in their original pots. I'm getting old and lazy and left about half a dozen trees in 5 gal. pots and growbags just setting above ground last winter. I was kind of surprised that they all made it through the winter and are growing fine.

What are they growing in now? Personally I would just heel them into a garden bed and mulch them good. Make sure you protect them from the mice, rabbits and deer over winter.
