Plots for hunting, or plots for deer food?

Cat, knowing a thing or two about the flint hills, I think something that isn’t apparent in your aerials is the topography. I’m guessing your hills are giant and there is a good bit of elevation between the hilltops and those bottoms. Do you have the real steep hills? Or are they more gradual?

If that turned into doe bedding, that might not be all bad. Could still be a good rut spot catching the bucks cruising the edges of that bedding.

Lots of terrain T-Max. Makes winds important. Can't even play with thermals a whole lot due to swirling winds. And the wind direction at a stand might be different than at the house because it will follow those long valleys and shift as it goes through. One of the reasons I've gone to hunting a lot from the ground is so that I can move a few feet one way or the other if the wind does something goofy.

That’s what I thought. I think from the aerials folks see a lot of room for plots. In reality there is a) not enough topsoil/too much rock in a lot of areas, and b) far more terrain that it seems.

Yes, lots of rock and lack of soil prevent a lot of plots. But to be honest the cattle prevent most of it. I like to use cattle but they do take up a lot of real-estate.

Cat, your hunting style is a lot like mine by the looks of it...conservative and on the edges. Beautiful place, thanks for the tour!
