Planted 16 trees on Dec 26.

Angus 1895

5 year old buck +
I planted 16 potted oak trees in 40 degree weather the ground wasn’t frozen. Day after Christmas.

I got them mulched with composted horse manure yesterday. It snowed an inch or so.

Now it’s 6 degrees. I wonder how many are gonna make it. They were mostly two year old potted trees that shocked this spring when they were moved outta the garage to the nursery.

I forgot if it was 2 or 3 years ago, but I planted bareroot fruit trees around december 12th or so in usda zone 3. First 2 or 3 inches of ground was frozen. Every tree made it. Got me sold on fall / winter planting.

Had a tree in a pot frozen solid. Put it in the ground over the winter. Did fine too.

The important part I feel is watering them during planting.

I haven’t packed water down yet.

The ground was saturated, the pots were wet, then it snowed. Now it’s 15 degrees
