We were just talking about this on a fruit growers forum this a.m.. Sounds like the MI peach crop might be a complete bust this year, even to the extent of tree die back. I know parts of MI are in the "bannna belt" :D, but peaches are not a extremely cold hardy crop. There are a limited number of cold tolerant varities, but even those tend to be very hit and miss on fruit production.
Personally I would never look at them as a worthwhile wildlife investment if you live north of zone 6.
