My fuzzy plan now is too plant the ten I ordered in five pairs in locations having differing growing conditions to figure out what are good growing spots for them. Where I end up with only one survivor out of a pair, I can eventually graft a scion from a different paw paw onto the survivor so it grows its own pollination partner on it.

Deer and other wildlife eat them. Also they are the only tropical type fruit that grows so far north, so people enjoy them, too.

They drop August through October. Pawpaws can establish a travel pattern and pull deer in for early bow season. After the pawpaws peak, the pears should take over, followed by apples, and finally the locust pods.
The patch I'm working on is only about 70 yards from the food plot and orchard I'm working on. I'm planning to go another 60 yards or so along the river bank and establish another pawpaw patch. I'd like to make a long food corridor the deer can wander through and always find something to eat.
They have a pawpaw festival where my place is in OH.....not sure anyone eats them. lol

Oh yes. There are varieties spanning late June to mid October. Pawpaws are also said to be extremely fragrant. Perfect for attracting deer and establishing a travel pattern, and offering early-season hunts on pre-rut bucks.
Rebecca's gold is reported to ripen in early to mid October in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Possibly later in Michigan. This would stretch into the beginning of pear season, maintaining feeding and travel patterns. Then apples come in, followed by late-hanging crabapples. Positioning soft mast along with varied food plots would meet all a deer's nutritional needs, and hopefully keep the bucks checking the area until the season ends.
The Ohio spot I'm trying to set up will be food plots and fruit trees along the South side of a river, encouraging a consistent flow through natural choke points. I already put in a mineral site, and the river provides water.
