Troubles Trees
5 year old buck +
Most of the time I am a "to each is their own" and try not to judge others.
But I do have an opinion though, being a hunter I understand what it takes to harvest an old deer and hold out for something sporting solid headgear. I have a neighbor above me that I, for many years admired as an awesome hunter after I saw the simply awesome Whitetail head mounts in his house he said he took locally. He and his son consistently take what always seem to be the biggest bucks taken locally almost every year a few of them I have had on cams.
I was out drinking with one of his nephews a few years ago and when I brought up the topic he laughed and told me that they don't even hunt. Puzzled I pushed him for answers, he said "your property borders theirs, you ever hear gunshots at night before season?" I said yea of course, all the time but Odie said they hunt coyotes at night with rifles. He said, "they don't hunt coyotes at night with rifles, how do you think they consistently kill the biggest bucks around?" I felt my soul die a little bit there, I have always praised these 2 as great hunters to everyone, to find that out really pinched a nerve. How the heck can someone claim they are such great hunters and yet knowingly robbing me, and all our neighbors, of the chance at all those big boys?
Back on topic, killing high fence deer is only hard on the wallet. I don't care if someone wants to, I have a problem with those that try to pretend they actually went out and put in the work then hunted it to get it, I have a few friends that do it but they are never open about the pricetag on the deers head before "hunting it". When I look at the racks on my wall and can remember everything about that days hunt, the trailcams if I have them, even what the weather was like.
When people look at the high fence mounts what do they reminisce? To each is their own, at least be honest about it.
