Opening day gun?

Natty,

Where in MA you hunt?

I’ll take my Browning X Bolt in 6.5 Creedmoor out for opening day. After that I might switch to my muzzleloader. Love the smoke pole.

Natty,

Where in MA you hunt?

Sorry....just saw this today.

I hunt in the northern Berkshires. Specifically in a few little hill towns called Savoy and Windsor. I also spend a lot of time hunting Mt. Greylock in Adams and Cheshire.

Used to 4 wheel the ice cream trail and old florida road up there.

I used a savage 220 this year.

It’s raining here hard this morning so I will most likely muzzel load for elk in October.

The herd got blown out above the house by archers so I doubt I will rifle hunt any more.

I was using a 99 T in 300 savage.

Holy smokes! Are you holding up ok?
Yeh, neck is doing better, left arm is working better, but marriage is over, blacklisted in my career, and dog is dying.
I don't think she still plans to hunt, but I have decided no way from my end. The words she speaks clearly do not match her actions, and that is frightening, especially when guns are involved.

The one I trust to take hunting this year is the M1g, but I am still not sure about dealing with the recoil.
Speaking of recoil, I didn't feel a need to get a prenup with my M1, but sure as hell did with the wife.

I seem to always grab my 20" rem 700 in 308, topped with a vx3.
I have high end custom rifles that collect dust. Seem to always grab ol reliable

Feel for you. I just got through divorce myself. Mine wasn't even very contentious and still took over 2 years and a lot of money. Divorce poor but happier than I've been in a long time though.

That's a pretty shitty combo you are dealing with. Hopefully you find a way to bag an elk this fall to get things headed in the right direction. If your injury is causing issues with recoil, I've had good luck using the Bog Pod tripod. It clamps on the stock and dramatically reduces the recoil.

Maybe I missed it earlier, but what happened in your career? You are due for a long stretch of good luck.

Well, I dared hold a federal agency accountable for violating law. (4 years of legal involvement took a toll on my marriage) They denied, obfuscate, threatened, and pull all kinds of dirty tricks that I thought only worked in the private sector. I have officials clearly confirmed lying on record and under oath, but no one cares. White males need not apply. Now they are emboldened, but I am always many steps ahead.

Hope things get better for you west fork. They usually do.

Have a bad c6/c7 disc from a car accident. Tried taming down my browning BLR in 450 marlin. 300gr heads lighter charges. Feels better, but I need more. Trying out a 450 bushmaster single shot with extra wright in the stock. Haven't fired or loaded it yet.

Even my 54 cal lyman GPR flintlock is a bit stout for me. Bought a 50 cal flintlock with a large 42" barrel. Cant even find a case to fit it in. Had to make my own. Weight like 10-11lbs, but very light recoil.

Used to shoot a 180gr 30-06 in a remington 700. Went down to a 150gr starting load in a 308.

Thinking of trading in the 450 marlin cannon for a 44 mag or 45 long colt lever gun. maybe......
