Opening day gun?

Wondering what everybody is taking out opening day? Technically opening day of fireams for me in NY is early muzzleloader in NY. Probably will take my new to me flintlock. Plan A was my good old glenfield model 30 in 30-30. However, the trigger is really stiff, Need to clean it and try it out good before I take her hunting again.

I spend the whole year deciding what guns I'm going to bring with me.
Which rifle I will use opening morning depends on where I go.
Where I go depends on how I do bow hunting and/or who else is with me in camp.

So I don't know.

Two week Early muzzleloader season a Traditions Nitro Fire , Firearm season Savage 116 Weather Warrior in .300 Savage

AR-15 most likely early youth season opens Saturday

Our gun season doesn't start until after Thanksgiving. I don't muzzleloader hunt anymore. Assuming I don't get something in archery, I'll probably take a Rem custom shop model seven MS in .308 this year. It went last year, but we never connected.

I am currently a deer snob, been one since around 2012. If I cant put an arrow through it then I am not shooting it. At least until my old body says no more. Then I will break out the .270 bolt action Savage in the weather warrior model and resume to shooting. Been my favorite big game caliber for a long time.

Two opening days for me. Opening day for VT rifle I'm carrying the venerable Remington 7600 Carbine in .30-06 with a Skinner peep....the stick shift of rifles.

MA shotgun opener I'm carrying my Savage 220 topped with a 1x6 Skinner.

I will shoot a bolt CVA cascade .350 legend n the early alternative weapons season, and AR 15’s in either 6.5 grendel or .450 bushmaster depending on how far I can see where hunting

I'll be toting a Remington 700 classic in 6.5x55. If my grandson hunts he'll be toting a M96 Swedish Mauser, in 6.5x55, I sporterized that's 110 years old.

Weatherby Mark V Ultra Lightweight in .308

Opening day, Mission Journey compound for the morning hunt and a Ten Point NXT in the afternoon.
Opening weekend antlerless season, Marlin 336 30-30
Special managed hunt, CVA Optima .50 cal muzzleloader
Opening day, regular season, Howa 1500 6.5 Creedmoor

Interesting fact I received an email survey from my state asking why I don't hunt any longer. . This will be year 3 without hunting and really don't miss it.

I sort of hunt mostly I like my kids to shoot something anymore but I will hunt a little during our gun season.

Probably a custom tikka 6 creedmoor with 18" barrel and suppressor. 2nd most likely is a tikka 223 that is configured near identically.

Hopefully i run an arrow through one first and only get to rifle hunt if party hunting though!

Next week i'll be in NV chasing muleys with a TC encore with an aftermarket 45 cal muzzleloader barrel, open sights, blackhorn 209, and 275 grain xld bullets.

If I'm lucky/unlucky enough to still have a tag when rifle season comes around, I will carry my Browning A bolt synthetic Stalker in 7mm Rem Mag.

Funny you say that. I only like to take 1 deer, 2 tops, per year and really enjoy the rifle hunt. Brings me back to my early days. In years when I take one during bow season the gun season can become boring. It's not uncommon for me to pass a deer multiple times during bow only to harvest it during the gun season. I'm even considering sitting out bow this year to have a "true" opening day with my Marlin 336 30-30 outfitted with a 4x fixed power scope.

A 22LR, AR in 223 and 300aac. I can't shoot anything with recoil right now, so not really hunting animals this year, just people. I patrol the perimeters. However, I decided that my M1G needs to harvest an elk, so next year is going to be dedicated to getting the M1 a cow. My wife filed for divorce, but she still wants to go hunting. Not sure what her plan is......if you don't hear from me again, I am hunting forever.

Holy smokes! Are you holding up ok?
