Old gravel driveway

On my hunting land I have an old driveway that is about 500 feet long, and is a straight line from the road. At the end of the driveway, where the old campsite use to be, is a clover plot. In years past I had poachers shooting down it, but I dropped a couple trees over the driveway to screen it, but now the trees are blocking less, and I would like to plant some screen on the length of the driveway. While it is tempting to plant a food plot, I dont want to attract more poachers. I am not sure what my long term goal is for the driveway, if I will ever re use it, or just let it go back to nature, but I am not ready to plant trees on it yet, because I am unsure. What would be a decent cheap screen that would grow on a gravel driveway? I dont care if deer will feed on it, as long as they can hide in it from road traffic. I was thinking corn, because if I dont add nitrogen, I cant imagine much ear growth. I was also thinking sorghum, but will it stay standing throughout much of the early winter? I would appreciate any opinions, or experience on the subject.

Thanks in advance!

I think you are going to have a tough time getting much to grow on an old driveway. That soil has to be pretty compacted. How about a huge brush pile?

I don't think anything will grow on a gravel driveway if you don't want to really want to get rid of it. I second a large brush pile. If it screens the road enough they will use it.

I do have plenty of brush!

If it were me I would just pick a spot on the road put in some 4x4's and screw plywood to them. Build a solid wall that the would be easy to remove.

Paint on it in big letters poachers will be prosecuted!

Instant blockade

or just buy a few pre fab treated timber fence panels(home depot by me sell them for 30 bucks a piece)
they come 6 ft tall x 8 ft wide, a couple 4x4 post in the ground to hold them up and your good to go??

as I would think 2-3 of them at the old entrance will stop all from viewing maybe down the old drive way?

do you ever use the driveway? Ive planted trees on the road side with a dogleg entrance so you can not see up the driveway.

I haven't used it in a couple years, and I don't think I will use it, but at this time I am not positive. I am planning on building a house up there in a couple years, and when I am living there my plans to use the driveway may change, so I would hate to plant trees on it, then have to uproot them if I want to use it.

This was my first thought. You could even sink some PVC pipe for the post to sit in so it would be easy to lift and move if you needed to use the driveway.

This, but instead of PVC go with a galvanized pipe. It lasts much longer, since pvc gets brittle with sun exposure.

Throw some winter rye on the gravel---it WILL grow.
