That's unfortunate. Just drove my daughter to a baton camp in Nebraska. Saw a lot of dead yearling and 2 yr old bucks on 80, mostly in the east half of IA. I assume they get picked up daily but who knows. Large deer herds will be a thing of the past if they aren't already. Hope everyone is ok.

oof! hope everyone is fine. Looks like a pretty nice buck.

He ok? That looks like a hell of a hit

I agree, hopefully just a little shook up. Never fun hitting one like that, I think I am close to half a dozen over the years. Last one was the worst, freaked us all out as it set off the curtain air bags on the windows of the pickup. Saw a picture of a police car the other day that hit one while going over a 100mph while in a pursuit. Not much left of the hood or the windshield on the cop car. I think the cop was alright.

I've been lucky, put a lot of miles on a year and never have hit one. Come close only once that I can remember.

He is sore, but didn't go to the hospital. His face is messed up from the airbag, but he said it would have been much worse without the seatbelt and airbag and it was a jarring hit. You don't expect 2.5 yo 8 pointers in 75mph urban city traffic.

Never hit one with a car or truck...one brushed me on a motorcycle once and that was way too close. Deer hair was on the highway bar pegs.

My cousin was driving the dirt road to our lease, about 40mph, in the dark, and a nice buck came out of the ditch, hit his left front tire from the side, then ass careened into his drivers door, setting off the door curtain bags like yours apparently. Odd thing about it...there was about 10 inch long stripe of deer hair about 1 inch wide pinched in the bead between the tire/wheel. You couldn't pull it out hardly, it was embedded so deep. Looked perfectly trimmed, like a groucho marks mustache. He hit that 10 ply tire hard, and then hit the door hard enough to set off the air bag. Cousin said it was pretty heavy collision out of nowhere, startled him bad enough between that and the air bag that he almost ran into the ditch. 6 month old $80k ford truck. He was pissed.

Yea that is what happened to us as well. We were doing 65 down the highway when a buck flew up out of deep ditch on my side of the pickup, hit the front wheel basically and his ass end slapped my door. Couldn't open my door, but besides that and the air bags being deployed damage to the pickup was minor. Insurance company wanted to total the pickup since the airbags deployed. Pickup was only a couple of years old at the time. I said no way. You aren't going to pay me enough to be able to replace it. They fixed it and returned it to me.
