Next Range toy?

Oh yes. I'll check the price when I'm down there again. It will probably bum you out.

As an aside, I bought a bunch of Norma 7.62x39, and I'm going to save the brass in case I end up reloading.

I've only been reloading for 12 years and I have powder that I paid 1/3 of MSRP now.. But at least i bought a bunch in the early years so I'm sitting on a decent stash.

Most striking example I have is a still unopened 8# jug of reloader 26. Think i paid $160 in 2015ish. Thats closer to the current secondary market price for a 1# bottle because it hasn't been imported in any qty for a a while.

Done. It wasn't easy. I still have to torque and stake the catle nut, but I will do that after I tune the buffer. But it's ready for the range.

...stake the catle nut...

Why? If you're not issuing it to a soldier that you don't want to take it apart, there's no reason to do it. (and IMO more reasons not to)

What do you recommend? Loc-tite? I don't want it to rattle loose and let the spring under the end plate shoot out again. I had a really tough time getting that thing in there, and I'm worried about it. I plan to hang the rifle on a sling by the end plate and do mag dumps. If it rattles loose, the spring shoots out, the detent pin stops holding the takedown pin in place, and I'm pretty much borked.

If you just tighten it good it's unlikely to ever come loose. You can loc-tite it if it makes you feel better. I used to do it years ago but I don't even bother anymore.

I've only ever had one come loose, ever so slightly. Loose meaning the stock moved a tiny bit. (it can only move so much anyway with the end plate in the tube notch, so 1/8th of an inch? ). I looked and noticed the nut was actually backed off a hair. I probably just snugged it by hand when assembling it and never used a wrench on it. I was hunting at the time, so I tightened it with my fingers and went about my business. It probably stayed that way for a couple years till I swapped in another tube for no good reason (color change).

What did you use to tighten it? I was thinking about using channel locks. I don't have an armorer's wrench.

Oooooooh.... no. Don't do that. lol Then you might as well stake it because you're going to chew the heck out of it anyway.

I'd spend the $10-$15 on Amazon (or wherever and buy one)

For years I just tightened them by hand, then whacked them tighter with a brass punch. Not the best, but it worked. I've had spanner type wrenches, but they can be hit and miss. If you buy one, get the three pronged type, I've had the best results with them, you can really bare down on them.

I would use rubber or leather to protect the metal. I don't want my new rifle to look like garbage on day 1.
