Next Range toy?

Nice 99 natty.

Going back to my old rule. Every gun in good order before getting more.

Just fitted the mercury recoil reducer in the browning BLR. Capped it with silicone caulk.

Got a nice swift scope I might let go. Got a brand new Leupold 2-7x or the still got Bushnell 3200 in 1.5-4.5x to put on my glenfield model 30. Beside a Lyman GPR flintlock in 54 cal, I don't have a peep sighted hunting rifle anymore. Could just throw a Lyman 66 back on it. Gave it to the oldest son when the BLR was sitting on the bench.

I want to get a radar chronograph.

That way I know where I am at with my reloads.

What is “ high dollar” for a model 99?

From what I saw, though not terribly to date, 99's shot way up and kind of stayed there. Now inflation and regular gun prices have kind of caught up with them.

As for range toys.... aren't they all really? How many bad guys did you shoot this year vs shots fired at the range with your carry gun? How many elk did you shoot with your elk rifle vs shots at the "range"? 😉

2 coyotes, zero deer, zero squirrels........

Cleaned the shop up. Thinking of letting go with a CVA wolf and a H03 Henry 22 mag Annie Oakley pump gun I won on a raffle this summer. Didn't pay attention, thought it was 22lr. 22lr,308,450 bushmaster and marlin, 30-30, and 20ga is enough for me, besides 45,50, and 54 cal rock locks.

Is this what you are looking for:

It's on sale now. You also get 10% off on Mondays if you have their credit card. If you sign up for their credit card, you get another $20 off. I think you get another 10% off if you are military or LEO.

Thanks for the heads up!

They are much less expensive on gunbroker. Especially the althanon is $370 shipped

Grafs had a Caldwell on sale for 87 bucks before Christmas. Got one for the oldest kid.

Not thrilled about knock offs.

I paid full boat for my Garmin when it first came out and I don't regret it all. I've used it more in one year than I did all the chrono's I've owned for the last 30+ years combined.
It gets used pretty much every trip since it takes up no space and there's no real setup or extra steps. (as opposed to humping all that extra stuff, and tripods and the assembly and setup, and wires, and lining it up, and the sun is wrong and it's not working right, and the wind is blowing it sideways or the wind is blowing it over.... ahhh!! "No wonder I hate using this thing!")

I have the athlon one (and lab radar, magnetospeed, prochrono).. Athlon has worked well thus far other than the battery is shit in cold weather.

I hold a grudge with garmin still since they bought out tri tronics and made my expensive e collars basically unrepairable. Wasn’t thrilled when they bought delorme inreach either but that got better. I’d take a garmin over the Athlon at same price but don’t think I’d pay the premium.

Can you describe how cold weather screws up the battery?

Do you think the Garmin would preform better?

Do you use the App on the athlon ?

Thanks

I just shot a couple weeks ago when it was in high single digits or low teens. I believe the battery was over half charged and IIRC it died within about a half hr. It'll probably allow external batteries if this is a real concern?

I dont have a valuable assessment on that, haven't researched it.
Do you use the App on the athlon ?
I dont. I probably should to help store data on my phone. I did read of some bugs with the app when it was first released. A buddy of mine uses the app and hasn't shared any issues. I've done exactly zero reading of instructions or functions, i just powered it on and followed screen prompts since the first use and that has been sufficient to get me what i'm looking for. I haven't done much load dev with it yet. Lots of clocking factory ammo and validating loads I already have a good idea of what to expect with.

I ordered an original Lab Radar the day they became available for purchase so have a lot of use on one. It worked great originally but with time it became much more sensitive to aim and placement and I needed to get an external trigger to get suppressed shots captured. The Athlon is significantly more convenient.
