Next Range toy?

bigboreblr

5 year old buck +
What are you folks eyeing?

Probably be awhile down the pike, but been wanting a winchester 1897 or something classic looking lever gun. If the 450 marlin tames down enough for me, then a 357. IF not, I walk the woods with a 44 mag.

Probably get a garage toy before that. Something fast cheap and probably on the ugly side. Got a nice 302 complete motor with roller cam, and a really good looking 460 ford block. Either one with be force induction.

Soon as I sent this, def leppard dont shoot shotgun came on.

Well, I just spent some cash I had set aside for my next range toy on a Remington 760 in .30-06 that I couldn't pass up.

But, I am with you. I am specifically looking for a Savage 99...in .243 or maybe 30-30....a classic whitetail lever gun.

Trying not to even look at anything and save some money. Normally I'd kill a lot of time on Gunbroker this time of year.

I did two really stupid things in Nov/Dec, that was enough.

1st dumb: Put together a .22 ARC upper. Part way though I decided to cannibalize a match rifle I hadn't used since 2011 and do a whole rifle. (pretty dumb, having 4 (or more) .223 uppers I don't use, already owning a 6ARC and a 6.5 Grendel, so it's not like there was a hole that needed filling)

2nd dumb: (which really happened first) Ordered a new 7mm-08 barrel for a rifle that basically has a brand new, super accurate 6.5 Creedmoor barrel, that I just put on it the year before.

🙄

I'd like to get an AR upper and a Ruger American Ranch rifle in 7.62x39, with a lightweight hunting suppressor.

I'd also love to track down a Taurus TX22 with a silencer for plinking and dispatching trapped raccoons.

I quite literally just asked Bill yesterday if I am allowed to post an AR upper for sale here on the classifieds. He gave me his blessing. Should I send you a few pics via PM? It's a 16" with a pic rail, removable carrying handle...came off a Daniels Defense.

7.62x39 from a nice olt gun is rough. Cheap ammo uses berdan rpimers. Which need a good whack from the firing pin. Cheap ammo is copper washed steel, which is rough on rifling. Not sure if Ruger got it bore correct too. There has been variances on which bore is used in the past. USed to be .308 bores for a on average .310 bullet. Some opened it up to .312". IF you're going to handload the Ruger, you're fine. You still might be ok with cheap ammo.

Bought plenty of 7.62x39 and a couple of SKS's in the late 2000's. Each kids get a tin or two and a rifle when I wormfood. All shoot great. MY wife's has a Burris fastfire on it.

The Ruger would be for hunting. The AR would be for fun and hunting, and possibly bringing to Norway when I get a license for such rifles. I should be able to take it back and forth in my suitcase without issue after I acquire the correct permits.

IF you do reload, I have had good results with honrady's v-max bullet. privi-partian brass is pretty good too.

Bolt upper in 9mm has been on my "let's be stupid" list. 7.62x39 would fit just as well.

Not sure if I'll do anything rifle-wise this year. Pretty content with what I have. A 7mm-08 and a .338-06 covers alot of ground. The one thing I intend to do is get a can for my Ruger 77/357.

I'm think I need a 9mm upper too.
My dad has a Smith and Wesson carbine in 9mm. Suppressed. Plenty quiet with sub-sonic loads, and we can find hunting ammo for it locally. I think a similar configuration in a bolt action would be fun.

Looking at an AR in 338 ARC, possibly a SBR. Going to suppress it for hog hunting.
I’m excited for you.

You can just go pistol with brace and not have to fool with the sbr thing.

My brother in law has a full auto lower, and I've burned up a few hundred bucks in .223 ammo already. It's also loud as shit. We had cars stopping and staring, which I didn't care for.

Would be a blast to get a silenced 9mm upper for the old Rat-tat-tat. Cheaper and attracts less attention. Maybe even a .22 upper if that's a thing. Then we could teach his kids to shoot full auto.

Not a future range toy- more of a project from last summer. I have a G-27 that I carried since they first came out. The only “upgrades” were night sights and factory Glock mag extension so my pinky didn’t hang off the grip.

My work gun changed from a similarly set up G-22 to a G-17 with a Trijicon RMR sight and Surefire X300 light. I fought accepting the red dot but once I spent some time with it I really grew to like it. I decided it was time to upgrade my beloved G-27 that went everywhere with me.

I went to the shop with full intention of a single stack Glock 9mm. It really bugged me though that my magazines wouldn’t be interchangeable at all. I also remembered how much I liked shooting my G-27. Ended up with a G-26 MOS which basically means it is ready to put an optic on. My goal was to recreate my G-17 in a smaller form that I could conceal.

I’m really happy with it. It got a Trijicon MRM, suppressor height sights and a smaller Streamlight weaponlight. I don’t love the weapon light- or more specifically I don't like the control buttons. Wish it worked like the bigger weapon lights. No choice there though.

Another thing I really like is I bought a couple X-Grip magazine grip extenders. Allows you to run a G-19 mag on your G-26. If I dont have enough room under my shirt I use the Glock factory plus 1 so my pinky doesn’t hang off and I kept one mag stock so it is even shorter.IMG_1124.jpeg

Teeder,

Used to do subsonic with a 24 inch barrel navy arms 357. Made a custom 210 or 220gr mold for it with a gas check and I think 8 grains of blue dot. Sounded like someone hit a hammer on a metal roof. Neighbors used to complain about me hunting on my family property years ago. They changed their mind when they say a coyote run off with their pet. Have permission to hunt their property now too.

Would love a 20" A2 styled AR. Rock River arms national match would be awesome.

They make dedicated 22lr uppers for AR's. They also make a drop in 22lr bolt conversion for .223 uppers. Probably work better with a can for gas system back pressure. Might be a few bucks of lead remover to clean that can after awhile. 50% peroxide 50% vinegar removes lead well.

Only full auto I'd entertain is 22lr, maybe just maybe 9mm or 223. Not in NY of course.

He can probably clean it at work. He's been kinda bored since he moved to the northern border, so maybe he'd appreciate having something to do there. I'll look into some options and ask what he thinks about it. There are rules about all that stuff, and he would never bend them even a little. I once said "I assume I'm not allowed to borrow this", and he told me "you're not allowed to even take it out of my sight."
