New Tractor

Peeps

5 year old buck +
We had a few acres opened up around our cabin by a logger. I hired a guy to clean up the debris and take care of the stumps. He worked 1 day and then walked away. After my wife and I explored our options we decided to move up our plan of buying a tractor in 3 years to right now and clean it up ourselves. I looked at used but couldn’t find anything close and with 0% interest we decided to buy new. We are getting a Kubota L3902 with a grapple and I picked up a Baumalight 1p24 stump grinder. We are going to haul the debris up front where my neighbor is going to grind it with his tub grinder. I will tackle the stumps at my own pace after that. We figured it was a better investment to use the money we had set aside for the clean up on the tractor as opposed to hiring someone else. I’ll post pics after we get it.

Over a period of several years.....I ground over 3000 pine stumps from my food plots (in truth I lost count.....maybe more?). These were all sheared close to the ground.....but I did grind them deep enough to run over it with a deep tiller. Glad that job is done.....I still have a sore neck from looking over my shoulder for hour after hour.

I hope you got a hydro trany in that unit? Its far easier when running a stump grinder or doing loader work.....no comparison. Also a HD loader? Important with a grapple. I would definitely get at least two pairs of rear remotes for things like your stump grinder and a hydraulic top link, etc.

The only loader available for the 3902 is the 565. I have a L4701. Almost wish I would have got the MX5200, but the 4701 has same motor sans turbo, so hopefully more reliable down the road.

The 3902 should be easy enough to be transported by a 7k trailer and 1/2 ton truck.

As others have said - Don’t even walk off the lot without two rear remotes and a front remote. You will kick yourself at having to get them installed later.

Pick up a quick hitch or Pats Quick Change, the will save your groin and your back.

Get the tires filled and a 5’ box blade or a weight box for ballast. Skid plates if you are operating in a area of brush. Also a set up pallet forks is handy.

Just waiting on the third function and mesh style brush guard to come in and be installed before delivery. I didn’t get any rear remotes as we are pushing our budget as it is but may have those added in the future. I know it will cost more but that’s how it has to be rt now. We had an engine block heater installed and the rear tires filled. I’m keeping my eye out for a box blade. I also picked up a Speeco quick hitch. In the future I may upgrade the turnbuckles to the pin style ones. I will also be looking for a brush hog by next spring. Trailer and other implements are part of my plan when I retire in 2 years as I may do cash jobs with the tractor then. What kind of grease are you guys using on your tractors?

congrats on the purchase. Bought a 2011 L3200, was a good tractor. Wish it has a few more hp the L39 did. Solid machine.

Grease isn't too picky on them. There's a grease point under the tractor for the front swing axle and I think the clutch n brake levers had them too. Keep the air cleaner in good shape, it'll live a long happy life. I was disappointed on how cold it was before I needed the block heater. Was like 20 degrees, maybe I was too quick on the glow plugs. I sold the tractor with the house I had. Driveway was a 1/2 mile on a steep north face of a mountain, kinda needed to make included to sell this tougher to sell place.
FYI, made several nice food plots with just dragging the bucket in reverse or using a yok rake alone. Use what ya got..

Also, don't forget to put the roll bar back down when going in garages........

Did you have some chain hooks mounted on the top of bucket? They come in real handy.

I am thinking about buying a 75A case 4 wheel drive, no cab, with front end loader. This used 2014 tractor is priced at $28,000 with 480 hours, it looks like new. Has any or you gentleman owned a Case and if so how did it treat you? Also do you think this rig is a decent price?

I have never seen one of these.....to my knowledge. Few Case/IH dealers into the utility tractor market locally.....tho they are a big factor in larger ag equipment. I could not get service near me on such a tractor. I think they are good.....if you have some dealer support in your area. Not sure on value....but it seems likes lotsa bang for the buck if it's equipped the way you want it.

You can check tractor data for specs.....and compare values on tractor house.com. Good luck in your search.

I know one farmer/land manager who has a 75A. It’s a fairly common model in the utility series, and he has had no issues outside of a battery. His is an open station tractor that is stored out doors (and looks like it!).

Last year I made the move from a CUT (John Deere 3 series) and full-size Ag tractor (John Deere 3020) to a single tractor (John Deere 5 series utility tractor). While I miss the hydro, the utility tractor is far more capable running NT drills, moving blinds and running Ag implements. The Case as equipped with 4WD and a FEL would serve you well based on my recollection of your property based on your posts. That price seems pretty good, as this model holds it value well.

Getting closer. The third function finally came in and they are installing it now with delivery of the tractor on Saturday morning. 73990945697__2CFD0E0A-FE80-4DAA-B1A3-54DB61B6D3DF.jpeg

^ Looks like a nice rig.

Looks like a good rig.

Nice setup. That will be a great tractor for your cleanup job and much, much more!

Nice tractor. Don't worry about adding rear remotes, as it's really easy to do yourself. It took an hour or so to do my old 4330. The engineering was excellent and everything I thought was going to be difficult was really easy. Most bolts used nutplates on the backside instead of regular nuts and it made it really easy to do by yourself.

Picked up some filter guards from Zooks Welding and threw them on. They use existing bolts and only had to drill 1 hole. Easy install. The first day I used the tractor I had a chunk of wood pop up and hit by the filters. Luckily it didn’t damage them but I ordered the guards that night and they arrived 3 days later.IMG_7486.jpeg

Already hit the 20 hour mark. So far so good 😊

Loving it so far. Already hit the 50 hour mark and will be doing the 50 hour service myself next time I’m up at my place. The grapple works great and the stump grinder has been a beast grinding stumps. I also picked up a box blade and a landscape rake. More importantly the wife likes using it too. Last weekend we put up one of those Harbor Freight garages to keep it out of the elements until we get the pole barn up. Not sure how well it will hold up but we tucked it in next to the house for some wind break and I only paid $170 for it so I won’t cry too hard if it falls apart.

Congrats on the purchase. Don't overtighten the garage roofing. Tends to last longer if you leave iy snug, but not tight. Best to set it on a warm day and check it once or twice a year.

Take it easy with that box blade. I wish they made those with S tines instead of rippers. Go slow and you'll be ok.

KY Wild, Did you get the case? MY brother in law has everything case except AG sprayers, he uses john deere with those for some reason. Case tractors, combines, implements, seeders, everything. ONly exception is small tractors for around the diary barm, he uses L series kubotas. Good chance me has a 78A.
