Why did you decide to covert to a disk?

My guess is it is faster than the 6 foot tiller he is selling.

Kabic nailed it. Disc is a lot faster. Disc makes more sense for the acres we are working and the time available. Tiller works a great seed bed.

Dan, Does your ground allow you to just disc or do you have to break the soil first? I started out plowing and discing and have since tried to rototill as much as possible. Yes it's slow, but at least in my experiences at my place one pass with the tiller is still faster than the multiple passes I need to get the same results with a plow (1 pass) , disc (at least 2 passes) and drag (another pass).

Glad you like your new toy!

After mowing and killing vegetation, which needs to be done whether I disc or till, I can work the ground with one pass while discing.

Good for you. I tend to have to plow just deep enough to turn the soil and then disc. My soil is loose and contains nearly no clay, but I often lack the weight and power I need to break that surface tension with the equipment I have without plowing.

For the bigger plots I use our big farm implements, but it is hard to beat the tiller for smaller plots or when breaking new plots. I also use the tiller for all my brassica plots because it is fast and easier to turn around. I wear my bag seeder on my shoulder roto till jump off seed and go over it again with tiller off or idled down in fast gear. Every tool has its place but the tiller would be hard for me to replace.
