I saw this tree the other day and tought how I struggle sometimes getting trees to grow and nature just finds a way even in the rocks. This is at about 10,500'.

It makes me wonder how I plant apple trees on special root stocks, with weed protection, caged and sprayed and still have problems getting them to survive. Mean while right next to them are these majestic native Apple trees probably 50 years old.
