Native habitat vs Food plots vs pellets

On a ranch tens of thousands of acres in size in Mexico. That doesn’t play in the Deep South. I love the pictures as much as anyone, but no conclusions relevant to me may be drawn from them.
nope. In the Deep South is where he has the unfenced area.

In this one topic you are wrong. Just admit it and move on. I’m wrong all the time

You’re still my favorite account on YouTube! I respect and admire what you do.

Your post prompted me to pose a fun hypothetical: @omicron1792 and @SwampCat if you believe in the value of supplemental feed so much, do you buy feed and feeders and give to your neighbors? After all, it’s about herd health and not attraction…
That’s not realistic. But I for sure know that these deer very well he shot by my neighbors. I’m all for that. Wouldn’t bother me a bit.

Wrong about what exactly?

Louisiana has the enclosure, Mexico ranch is 15,000 acres low fence.

Thanks for the YouTube comment . Appreciate that. I need to start crafting new material. I'd love to say I've been too busy but the truth is I've been lazy and uncreative. That said I am experimenting with some very interesting projects. Gotta get the camera out.

Yes plus 8,600 acre high fenced in Mexico. We grow B&C bucks every year on the low fenced pastures. I like the fenced pasture more

The opinion I don't share with the OP is that bettering the native habitat will decrease herd health.

Agree my friend. Not in one year.

Disregard. I misread.

I agree with your disagreement. Wasn't trying to imply that. In fact I do everything I can to improve habitat Also important to note my caveat was my observations are about the poor soils on my farm . That said I am ' wondering' if deer eating the majority of their daily diet on native vs clovers don't do as well as when the majority of their diet is planted cultivars and pellets? My results this year could also be as simple as a gap in age structure still recovering from the storm. Good fodder for discussion.

I'm off to grab my grandson and pick sweet potatoes:)

I've seen what just native habitat can produce in the deep south over generations of deer being made feel secure and allowing them to grow to an age where they will most likely die from natural causes. B&C bucks are not uncommon there. They have no plots or feeders. They have no livestock or other stress producers. The spot I'm talking about is a combination of old field and mature bottomland forest in a parish/county with zero B&C entries. They simply have been provided secure food and cover for generations.

No - I have said many times it is about herd health AND keeping the deer on my property as much as possible and off my neighbors. I would quit feeding the protein now - except my deer like it so much better than corn. I want them to keep eating and stay on my place as much as possible. Herd health AND defensive feeding
