Name this Plant

Here is a small bush that has these fluffy Yellow flowers. I know the pic is not the best, I could not get me Phone to focus?? Any ideas? Thx

do the branches have a spicey smell? is so, spicebush, if not, witch hazle

Doubt it is witch hazel. Has yellow flowers but blooms very late compared to most plants as in the fall instead of spring

Yeah, not witch hazel. The stems look like button bush. Is it growing in a very wet area?

We have a winner. It is Spice Bush. Thx guys I never would have figured that out. Funny now that I found this one I have found a few more as well.

If you are at all like me, once you find something new and learn to identify it, you will see more and more of it. I even spot things going down the road.....my wife and kids think I'm nuts......maybe I am, but it is what it is .

Same here. Sometimes I wish I could go back to the days that I was ignorant about this stuff. Once you learn to ID Bush Honeysuckle, Privet, Bittersweet, Canada Thistle, Yellow Rocket, Mile-a-Minute, Knotweed and Grapes, then you begin to realize just how widespread these invaders are.
I used to think a field of blooming Yellow Rocket looked nice, now I see a field of issues.
Ignorance is bliss.

Same here. Sometimes I wish I could go back to the days that I was ignorant about this stuff. Once you learn to ID Bush Honeysuckle, Privet, Bittersweet, Canada Thistle, Yellow Rocket, Mile-a-Minute, Knotweed and Grapes, then you begin to realize just how widespread these invaders are.

Yep - I remember when I first did my CRP - I was SO ignorant of what I was doing. I had a nice tall area of grass I was so impressed with. I asked the county office to come out and take a look to ensure I was doing the right thing. Well......turns out that tall beautiful grass that I was so proud of.....where I had planted orchardgrass, timothy and clover was indeed johnsongrass! I thought the county guy was going to pass out! Well I learned real fast the hard way about that damn weed! Now I swear I can spot it at 200 yards away! Sometimes your better off not knowing......

No question. It's an addiction. I find myself trying to identify stuff everywhere I go. For no particular reason.

When I leave the northwoods, I'm very quickly lost. Zone 5+ has stuff we've never even heard of up here!

I was at a property tour here in IN once and one of the other guests was from WI. He asked me why some of the trees where dying. I asked him what he was talking about, because I had not noticed anything. He pointed to the tree and said - like that one....it's bark is falling off! It was a sycamore tree.....VERY common around here, but apparently not in WI. So we had a little discussion about that species. Just shows how regional some things can be and what is common to some folks is entirely new to others. That is why forums like this are so great because you can get regional info if/when needed, but you can also get a wide collection of info from all across the country as well.

Yep. And that's why it should be mandatory on this forum to show the location of the poster...zone or preferably the state.
