Mother load of wild trees

SmallChunk

5 year old buck +
I was turkey hunting on some public land last year and I stumbled across this wild Apple tree out in the middle of a prairie like setting.

I decided to take a walk out there a couple of weeks ago to mark whatever wild trees I could find so that I could possibly use them for scion for grafting next spring. What I found on my walk was something I wasn't expecting....there are over a hundred wild apples growing on this 40 acre public chunk. There are 4-5 trees out in the open and the rest are tucked away in the woods with a lot of them being next to drainage ditches. I didn't see much for fruit hanging, but I will be keeping an eye out for differences this summer. Here are a few photos I snapped! I was in awe, so the pictures aren't all that great.
Here are the locations of some of the trees.

Could you imagine what a couple years of releasing and pruning would do for food production?

Wow, you may want to take scions from some of those later on.

Those are beauties.
