We planted 5000 miscanthus rhizomes this past spring and this what they look like this fall.









Jess sprayed 4 qts atrazine per acre but heavy rains pushed the herbicide deeper and encouraged a round of ragweeds.








Jess planted roughly 1.5 ft apart and it appears survival is high








They were planted for screening purposes but eventually red cedars will mature and the miscanthus will no longer be needed.

Miscanthus is a great plant for screening. You can take cuttings from it every year to keep expanding the screen and after 3 or 4 years when the plants mature you can split the rhizomes and expand that way. This is my first year with any and I am really excited to see what it does on year 2 from cuttings

Do your deer browse your cedars you plant for screens? I want to use cedars, but I've had people warn me the deer will destroy them.

They don't touch them down here but they do in northern areas of MN, WI and MI in those areas use Norway spruce. Where I live bucks demolish spruce so we don't use them here.
