That stand is over 10 years old. It was 2 rows that eventually grew into each other. I'd say with 2 rows it's 3 to 4 years before you have a good screen.

Do deer bed in GM or use it mainly for screening?

I've only used it for screening. Higgins says you can use it for bedding, I don't see the value in that (nor do I think deer will use it for that), but I don't sell it either.

I planted miscanthus along a road for screening last spring. I don’t know it it will come back this summer. Last summer was a bad drought and this winter was cold but I hope some survived.

I bet it comes back. It’s pretty hardy and in my experience pretty drought resistant.

Don from Maple rivers accidentally sent several thousand rhizomes to my home in NJ rather than to the farm in MO. He got a new shipment out asap and when the one got to my house I had my wife refuse the shipment.

I bet by the time they got back to him he had to trash them. That is customer service.

Maple rivers used to have videos of deer going in it to bed. He had spaced out rows. I bet they would bed next to a short run of it as long as they didn’t feel trapped. I’d say plant east to west and they would lay on the south side and use it as a wind block.

Wow! I had a similar experience. I was an idiot and planted too soon in NH. (He said to wait until May 16 but I planted in April). They froze and rotted (they need a chance to get going before a winter). I sent him a picture of dying stuff asking for advice. I just was wondering if they would recover or if I had a total loss. He said: “Oh, that looks bad, let me send you 300 free rhizomes “. He didn’t need to do that. He wasn’t obliged to do that. I didn’t ask him to do that. Well, let me tell you what: He now has a customer for life.
He is a good person. He called me and sent me those free rhizomes and he could have just ignored me.
