Milo cut or uncut?

Grew some good milo this yr. Birds and deer loved it! But there is now zero grain left. I see deer in cut milo this time of yr quite a bit.

Question is; is it better to leave it standing... or mow it and spread all that seed out so it's harder to get and lasts longer? Does it matter?

They aren't in it anymore. They quit this plot some time ago.

Ah, didn't read the "cut" in that sentence. My bad.

I would mow some test strips and see how they respond.

If the Milo needs to be cut down before you plant the next crop, I might go ahead and do it all now if the conditions are favorable.

There's no seed left so mowing now won't mean much. Am curious if mowing right after it ripened would have prolonged the plot's usefulness.

Told the kids to knock some it down yesterday. They make sure there's never a dull moment!

AG folks cut that as soon as they can. Longer its chopped, longer it decomposes.

In MN it would be illegal to mow paths through it like that (I am quite sure). A conservation officer could view that as baiting.....or could he if there is no grain left? No cutting or placing for hunting purposes.....but this is not really doing that. INTERESTING SITUATION.

Legal to bait in KS Foggy. Just can't hunt migratory birds over a field unless it's standard farming practices.

I don't hunt my plots SwampCat, so no worries about messing anything up. Just looking towards next yr. Might go ahead and mow it down as soon as the berries ripen with hopes that it hides the seed a little better so the plot stays active longer.

I wouldn't cut milo. I mow corn in MO with good luck. I mowed some trails through milo for visibility. They used it for travel, but would mainly eat in the standing milo.

I Gotta drill some NWW milo this year. What is the rate you use. I think they sell out fast on the really good milo. I need to get on the stick in the next days.

Wish I could remember, I'm in FL for the winter, not around my drill notes. I'm thinking 8-10 # / acre.
