Might get to test taste 2 new Limbertwigs this year

I've been getting good crops of Black Limbertwig for 2 or 3 years now, and this year I have two more varieties that look like they will put out a decent crop.

Both of these are at my home and not at my farm.

First tree is a Caney Fork Limbertwig.

Second is a Myer's Royal Limbertwig.

Third pic shows the size of the apples so far. No sign of Fireblight so far this year, and its hard to believe. But could start any time. If it does, I will get to see how these two varieties do. Black is very resistant - as good as Liberty.

NH, for the Caney Fork Limbertwig and the Myer's Royal Limbertwig, what rootstock are they on and when did you plant them?

They are both on M111 and I'm thinking 4 years ago. Royal might be 5 years.

Will be looking forward to your experiences with the Caney Fork and Meyers Royal Limbertwigs. I grafted a number of different varieties of Limbertwigs last year on B118 & G202 and hope to have fruit in 3-4 years.

Thanks Guys. I've heard good reports on both as an eating apple. If we get any fruit this time I will be sure and post pictures.

NH, next winter I would love to trade some of my scion varieties with you for sone limbertwig scion. I will have scion on over 50 vintage varieties.

Awesome, hope they taste good! :)

Let's talk later in the year, that sounds good.

Steve a couple of the black limber twigs I grafted have taken. I hope to check on them today and get a better idea of how they are all doing. I'm glad some of them have taken didn't know what to expect with grafting this year.

That sounds great Daniel. We moved both of the big Black Limbertwigs with a back hoe, and they are looking good so far. Thanks for the update on the grafting.

After doing some more checking, I can add the following varieties to the list that look like they will be producing their first crop this year.

Summer Champion - has apples as big a dimes already.

Brushy Mountain Limbertwig - tried to produce a small crop for the first time last year.

Old Fashioned Winesap - full sized tree that bloomed for the first time last year and appears to be loaded this time.

Milam - same as tree above

There are some others I will check later that we noticed when mowing.

So far, no sign of Fireblight on anything this year. It could hit any time, and if it does, it will separate the winners from the losers.

Even the American Summer Pearmain (that I've considered cutting down because of FB) is loaded with apples this year.
