Trying to get better at on the hoof aging. Not many shooters around. A new deer showed up. Any ideas on age and gross score? Thanks for the help

4.5. If he was from around here. Not sure how your local herd develops.
135 gross.
EDIT: I think I'll bump the gross up a bit to 140", but it doesn't really matter...he's a shooter in my world.

Really helps to know location and management practices, but that buck is fully mature... probably at least 4.5

I was guessing 4.5 and 140 as well. I don't want to shoot 3 year olds and his lack of mass was my main reason of concern.

Trying to get as many bucks pegged as possible on trail cams and trying to share with neighbors who are hopefully like minded and can start laying off the best 2 and 3 yr olds.

And location is northern IL as stated in profile.

I've been trying to hold out for 150+ size deer for several years, but knowing this deer is mature, I would take him given the chance.

Edit to say 1 minute after posting I have a buck down in my clover plot. I think it's a very mature one. Still sitting in my blind. It's my 1st buck in 6 years.

Thanks Tap! The deer I got is the one in a different thread I made down the page, titled Nice 10, Old Stealthcam. I will follow up on that thread later today with a picture. Feeling very elated and blessed.

That deer is at least 4.5
