M16A1 retro build

Have everything but the barrel now and it’s coming Friday. Spent some time cleaning things up today. I purposely bought worn and used and will distress the lower after I finish it.

I started out thinking about doing an XM16E1 but couldn’t find a Nodak Spud lower. My dad carried an A1 in Da Nang so I thought it would be a nice tribute. This is the lower I chose.

Nice. I carried an M16A1 in Desert Storm...always wanted to do a retro build. Are you going to do a park on the receiver and then weather it a bit so it matches the patina of the other parts?

I'll probably use something like Brownells Aluma Hyde. A light coat, scuff it, then a heavy coat and scotch bright the high spots down to the aluminum.

That will look sharp. Looking forward to some pics when you're done. Then shoot that thing until it smokes!
