Living Christmas Tree

Pheasant, grouse, and turkey, huh?? Is this a Christmas tree .................. or a little BRAG on your family's shooting prowess??? :emoji_wink: :emoji_thumbsup:

Darcy fully involved, I suppose??

Love this idea!!! I convinced my wife that we should do this to add to a line of spruces next year!!! (Is that a 2-3' of a 3-4' potted plant?

I would say it is 3 1/2' tall not including the ball. Any bigger than that and they are just to heavy to manage. I think this is like the fifth year we have done a balled tree, all the others are planted out at the farm as road screen and are doing well. This one will be planted at the new pond, it is a black hills spruce, this year was my turn to decorate it.

Here are some of the previous year trees;

Decorated it with some of this years upland trophies.

Congratulations on the great bird hunting!

I’m still planting trees!
This years living Christmas tree. Just got it planted out in the yard, pre dug the hole a few weeks ago.
It’s a root balled five footer, we only bring the live ones in the house a few days before Christmas then take it right back out day after so it doesn’t break dormancy.
This is probably the eighth year or so we have done a living tree…haven’t lost one yet!
The very first one is well over 12’ at the other farm and looks great. I would say they have been planted maybe 50/50 at each farm.

This one will help screen the beach area from road and eventually help block west wind off the barn.
And today is our 38th anniversary so it will have two meanings for us.

That is super cool! I am eventually going to do one decorated with fur ornaments, from critters I have trapped.

How bad was digging the hole.

Happy New Year!! Congrats on your 38th - you and Mrs. H20!! We're working on our 40th this year. How do the ladies tolerate us?? !!

Trees look really good. Those will make a nice screen/wind break.

How bad was digging the hole.

Not terrible, between frozen ground and dry clay from late summer drought it took a little while with a shovel.
Had to pour a couple buckets of water into the started hole and let it sit for a bit to soften the dirt up. Hole ended up being perfect size for the root ball.

Happy Anniversary.
