Wanabhunter
A good 3 year old buck
I’ve experienced very heavy line hunters on the south side of the property and need to alter my hunting approach.
I hunt a small, rectangular piece of land that is roughly 15 acres (that are huntable). The neighbor to the north has a property of similar size, but about three-quarters of it is overgrown pasture with a high stem count. He also hunts. To the south is bigger track About 90 acres with a large section of oak and hardwoods and some thicket. The deer seem to bed in mine and then either walk out to the neighboring properties.
My block of timber is very very thick (not huntable or even walkable, and the deer bed there, making their way in and out in the morning and evening. I access by popping into the thicket, but it’s so thick that it is impossible to hunt it, so I tend to hunt mainly the one side to the south as that’s the only place I can get up in a tree.
My issue is the neighboring hunters on the south are line hunters and has several guys who hunt along the property line and love to walk it. Unfortunately, I also hunt the line because of limited trees to saddle hunt from and access restrictions. On the north, it’s mainly overgrown pasture, and he hunts there as well, so I don’t want to impose and ruin his hunting experience.
As I am learning, I have seen a hunter either in person or trespassing (even though it’s posted) nearly every time I’ve been out. My deer encounters are decreasing, and I’m getting more nighttime photos on camera. (I did have a conversation with the neighbor)
I want to know if you all think it’s okay to cut inside trails along the edges of my property so I have more places to hunt and can use the existing edge as a small barrier. The goal would be to push the deer or keep them more toward the middle of the my property while still allowing me to hunt the outskirts. This would also improve access and give me better opportunities to hunt safely.
Basically, the my property shape of a rectangle, using a brush hog or chains saw, make a smaller rectangular shape trail inside my property lines in about 50 yards.
