Leaf curl aphids

How do I get rid of aphids on my apple trees? I have a couple of apple trees that have a lot of leaf curl. When I opened up the leaves, they had what looked like mold inside but then I would see an ants as well going up the tree. So i assume aphids. Will they go away on their own or do I need to treat for them.

In my little orchard I did alot of smashing the large clumps of them with my thumb for my own satisfaction (ended up with a green thumb), and then spraying the trees with sevin to take care of the stragglers. I'm fairly inexperienced at taking care of trees, so I'm not sure sevin is the right thing to use but it worked for me. I don't usually have to deal with the aphids until the hot humid summer sets in.

Be careful spraying carbaryl (Sevin used to be carbaryl, some still may be) on apple trees. It's used by orchardists for fruit thinning.

Really? My trees are young with few or no apples so not worried about that

Yep, really. With no apples you don't need to worry about thinning so spray whatever works. The issue with aphid leaf curl is being able to get the insecticide on the aphids.
