Spotted a couple of these on a crabapple. Something I should spray for? If so will Captan do the trick?20170515_091134.jpg

Possibly a flying ant?

Not sure what it is, not something I have seen around here before. I am sure you likely meant Imidan when you typed "Captan" as Captan is a fungicide and not an insecticide.

Couldn't find any imidan around here, but I grabbed some fruit tree spray that contains Captan, Melathion, and Carbaryl.

Carabyl and malathion should do same as Imidan am sure you killed that dude lol

You can get Imidan from Keystonepestsolution.com

You can get it from Martinsproducesupplies.com

At least they list it, havent bought it from them so dont know if they require a buyer to have a restricted use pesticide applicators card.
I clicked on the product and it did t show any restrictions. Thanks Turkey

Looks to me like a good guy, and are considered beneficial, don't spray for them! I'm pretty sure it is one of the parasitic wasps. I'll look it up and find out more about them. Regardless, If you see a couple of anything on a tree, that is hardly the threshold for spraying.

That would be cool. I didn't spray them yet as they didn't appear to be doing damage to the leaves they were on, and only saw a couple on a crabapple, and one on a different apple tree.

I'll try to get a better look to figure out if they're the ants or wasps.

I second the beneficial wasp ID... although I have no idea what name or variety.

Turkey I ordered some imidan from them. They have great prices

Eyes look fly like to me... my guess would be black soldier fly. Their larva are really big as maggots go and make good chicken food as well as brim and catfish bait. We get larva in compost and besides free bait, the larva make short work of anything put in, greatly reducing the time it takes for scraps to be broken down. Look them up on YouTube and you'll see good many folks love having them.
