If You have back problems........have a look.

foggy

5 year old buck +
I've had lots of back problems for several years. Had surgery once to remove part of a disk....and have another disk with more problems. Also have neck and nerve issues in my shoulders. Also have some arthritis in my hips and other joints.....but I digress as this thread has to do with lower back.

Recently after seeing my Dr, and a Chriropractor, and making an appointment with a specialist and doing consults about surgery again......I talked with a coffee friend of mine that is also an MD. He suggested I try some traction via an inversion table.

I did some research on the web and found some rave reviews about improvements by other folks from inversion. Just then I got a flyer on a Costco model and did more research to find that the best "bang for the buck" was a Teetor 560. $300. Shipping paid. I actually bought mine from Amazon because I didn't want to wait the extra few days for the slightly better value at Costco. I have been hurting.

Ordered one and did a few 5 minute inversions at about 60 degrees (no full or "free" hanging for this "youngster"). ;) I cannot believe the improvement I got from such short "hang time". My lower back is much better now......and I could even do some yard work after the storm here at the lake (which I wrote about in the weather thread). On Sunday I had considered that I could play golf with my league on Wed. Amazing results for me.

Anyway, I feel this is important enough to want to tell others about what seems to be a solution for lower back pain.....for me.
If you suffer like I have.....check it out. I don't think its a cure-all.....but it has provided some relief from some old chain saw injuries. Maybe it's just temporary......but I am willing to hang like batman for a few minutes here and there. :) Four or five trips to the Chiropractor cost more than this device...and have not delivered the good like this has.

Hope you guys don't feet this is spam......I'm just trying to help a few others with lower back problems. - Foggy. PM me if you need more info.

Glad to hear you got some relief from this, I had surgery in 1995 and every once and a while I over do it and it puts me down for a few days. I have often thought of given one of these inversions a try but didn't know anyone who had tried them. I'll have to look into this, thanks!

^ Ya-know I have only had this thing for six days. So....it's a bit hard to make a testimonial on such. But while doing the hanging I could feel the popping a few times and it does make me taller. Even had to re-adjust the table so I can tip easier as I grew taller. Seems funny....but it seems to take some of the compression out of your back.

Many of us active "outdoor types" have overdone it a few times and have similar issues. Seems this could be a solution for some of us. (In some ways I feel like a "shill".... but there is no connection here or profit motive. Just find a few good things from time to time and need to say so. grin)

Is it supposed to work for upper back and shoulder problems too? I have a bulged disc at C5 and bursitis in my shoulder and like you have been through the ringer of remidies.

A friend of mine has an inversion table, he swears by it as well. He has had his for a number of years.

I have to say I started to grumble when I first saw the title of this thread:mad:................and then saw that foggy was the poster.:confused:I thought for a minute maybe someone hacked his login. Not spam coming from one with personal experience and a sincere desire to help others, unlike post where one is seeking personal gain with the desire to fill ones own pockets.;)

I don't hang around like a bat!

Glad it worked for you Tom!

My taconite supplier has one and he swears by it too. Got all embarrassed when I asked him about it because he started talking like a salesman for them.

If it helps you, awesome! Nothing wrong with trying to guide folks to something that might help them too. :)

Thanks whip. Kinda sums it up. Every now and again you run into something that seems so worthwhile to you and maybe to others. This is one of those. (Fluid Film is another ..... I wish they could inject some of that into my joints. lol :D)

I have read that some claim relief from upper back issues.....but other say no. Frankly, I don't know. I don't suppose it could hurt ? Go to a site (costco or amazon....and read the testimonials. I think they are genuine and may provide your answer? )

Good Luck. Back pains are an attitude killer. Hang in there. ;) (good pun...no?)

I've thought long and hard about getting one. After a long day of whatever, I can often times just stand up straight and then reach for my feet with my legs straight, and I can feel my spine pulling back apart from being compressed. I just have to figure out where I could put one in my massive one bedroom apt with a two man fish trap at the foot of the bed.

I hear that. They do fold up.....but I doubt many folks fold them away each time they use 'em. I put mine in our basement. It was there or the garage for me. The basement is cooler. I don't think you need to hang more than about 5 to 10 mins. So the "treatment" time is not too bad. I listen to two songs on the radio....and relax. I figured mine would be a bit more "bulky".....but its not too bad. I can say that I wish I had this years ago. (still....Ive only had mine less than a week.....so I am reluctant to "push" at anyone.....)

Back in my serious workout days we just used these..............

If I tried this now my knees would never go back into place.

Go to a surgeon, surgery will be recommended....enouf said

I thought about one last year. I talked to my surgeon who replaced my knee. He strongly recommended for me not to do this. Only because of the knee replacement.

Surgery doesn't fix everything, and can cause new problems.

Bear with me, this does involve the Teetor.

I am 48 and have had a bad back for almost 10 years. Doctor told me "you have a pretty bad back for a 39 year old skinny guy." At that time, after a trip to the emergency room and hardly being able to walk, I was considering surgery. Looked into alternatives. Found a chiropractor with the DRX 9000 spinal decompression machine. I had a schedule of about 20 or so treatments. After each treatment I could feel minor improvements. About treatment 9, during the treatment, something gave and most pain was gone instantly. I thought that if this happens again, I will be perfect. It never improved that much again but I still have not had surgery and am not contemplating it.

I have had a Teetor thing for the last 5 years or so and if I sleep wrong, bust ass on the weekend or just am uncomfortable, I will hang on it once or twice. I can hear and feel myself sliding down the thing and getting longer. Most minor pain is greatly diminished if not eliminated. If I lost mine tomorrow, I would spend the $300 for another. Beats surgery.

I had a serious lower back injury and surgery in 1972. I was 24 at the time. Although the surgery helped, I always had discomfort. Over the years it would sometimes get to the point of being confined to a recliner or bed for a couple days. Chiropractors didn't want to touch me. Three years ago I bought a Teeter inversion table. I started out very slowly and increased time and tilt over a 6 month period. I have been pain free for about two years. I now only use the device once a week unless I get into some serious work or strain. I highly recommend them to anyone with back issues. My only caution is to take it slowly at first and build up to longer and more inverted sessions.

At the time I got my Teeter, I was 6'1" tall. After 6 months, my doctor measured me three times and couldn't figure out how I was now 6'3" tall. :) He is one of the people that told me inversion tables were of no help.
