I told her "It's an investment"

A good 3 year old buck
I want to start by saying thanks to all of the members here that helped provide all the great information for me to make the decision to buy this 3P606NTno till drill. I’ve been wanting to buy a no till for quite a few years but never could seem to find a nice use one for a price I could justify for the few acres I have to plant.

I have finally came to the realization that my 401k investments are not keeping up with inflation so it was now or never on the drill. I’m looking at this purchase as more of a re balancing of my portfolio. I plan on treating this like vintage car and with the amount of acreage I’ll be tilling, I’m hoping to get nice return on it if I ever need to cash it in. If that need never happens than it will be a great addition to my estate auction sale when I’m gone.😀

I like your logic. lol. Enjoy that drill. It may be one of the finest you could own (IMO). Looks like your "frost seeding"....lol

Likely a lifetime investment. And as you say....you would likely always get your money back ....after 5 years or so.....unless the SHTF......at which point we are all toast.

If the ground wasn't froze I'd be out there playing with it now.

I think the SHIF is already happening. It's just too slow for most people to notice. Just take a look at California's wildfire prevention efforts. As long as I can still buy diesel fuel, seed and fertilizer, I'll be happy.

I'm sure mine is worth more then I paid for it. And I even paid for the useless warm season box because it was the only one in stock locally.

I didn't know they even had a warm season box. How is that different from the main and small seed box?

It's a box with a big worm gear in it to get the warm season grass with chaff and hair to flow into oversized tubes. With all that you still need to add graphite to the seed to make it flow. May not be an option with a 3 points, mine is a 606 pull type. I've never used it. I've planted switch grass with it but Switch grass isn't hairy and can be planted using the main seed box.

I think that might be also referred to the the native grass box. I didn't think I would find a need to have it neither.

I can't get much growth out of NWSG so never would buy a drill with this box.I would plant switch and it can be done with regular drill. Great purchase good luck. How many acres do you plant a year?

Congratulations

You are going to absolutely love it

You done good.

We went from working our rear ends off to till and plant 4-5 acres of plots in a day to putting in 15 acres in a day and still being home for dinner.

Right now I'm planting about 2.5 acres. I'm working on creating some new plots in a clear cut red pine plantation with lots of field stone. The stump removal is a slow process. I'm hoping to get another acre ready for planting this year. I am not sure just how clean I need to get the field before I attempt to plant with the no till.

They make a 3P with the native seed box. It makes the drill a monstrosity. The length with 3 boxes, along with the weight puts a terrible amount of leverage on the tractor. My buddy has one. He runs a 95 HP tractor and it still will toss you around if you drop it fast or it swings on a turn. No way I'd own one, no more than a guy plants NWSG.

Yeah that's not an issue with the pull type it just rolls along. The only time weight would be an issue is when you shouldn't be planting in the mud anyway.
