I think it’s dying

This is a Yellow Transparent from SLN planted in 2016. It woke up and started to leaf but the leaves all started to wilt and shrivel up. Any ideas what happened?

Spray any herbicides in the area lately?

Shake the trunk and see if it feels loose in the ground.The only time I have seen this is herbicides or when a critter eats all the roots off underground

No herbicides sprayed anywhere yet this year. I’ll give it a shake tomorrow when I’m spraying my other trees.

I picked up a 7 ft Cortland to replace it with tomorrow. Maybe I’ll find something out when I dig it out. It has always been a runt and grew the least out of all of my SLN trees so I’m not sad.
