I think I have a bird problem.

When I started spraying this morning early I noticed I had several apples with large holes in them. The holes were about 1/4 of the size of the apple ranging from the size of a quarter and up. They apples were still hanging. I don't know what else it would be. Now that I have the coon issue in check, I have birds. REALLY. My neighbor has 8-9 OLD unmanaged, neglected, and overgrown apple trees in his hillside pasture. There are 10 billion small apples on it and the birds and coons never touch them!

Do you know of anything it could be other than birds, and what do you do to keep the birds away. I was thinking of hanging some black rubber tubing in the trees.

Likely birds I would guess. They make bird scare ribbon which is a metallic streamer like material, some people have good luck with that but usually more so if they get it out before the damage begins. There are some new experiments out where they spray the trees with concentrated sucrose. Birds cant metabolize it and it makes them temporarily sick. Verdict is still out if the spray will cause more disease and insect issues though!

Not sure how it will work with apples, but I've saw where people here have used shiny red Christmas tree ornaments, the plastic kind, on their tomato plants.
Supposedly, the birds will peck those and see they're no good then leave the tomatoes alone when they're ripe and turning red.
I always plant enough that myself and the mockingbirds have plenty.

I don't know for sure, but I really don't think so. For example, they partially ate every apple on my 20 Ounce tree and just don't see wasp don't that much damage.
