I still haven’t fired that model 1894 you sold me. But it’s in my list of to do’s. EHD hit the farm last year so my plan to use it to shoot a doe got put on hold…

I’ll get there.

My experience, they don't like much more than that. Two's good, three sometimes, four can be pushing it. Based on my dad's 99C in .308 anyway.

I've also an 1899 in .250-3000 but considering age and poor condition, it's never going to shoot amazing again. Same goes for the rifle. 😄

Photo info shows me it's been 10 years since either of them was in the woods. 🙁

I had the barrel cut and recrowned , then drilled for a scope. Its length of pull is short and the Burris scope on it has a very poor eye relief.

So they are peas in a pod!

I sold this too my horse shoer, then bought it back.

I hope to shoot it again before it gets too hot today…..

I thought it looks a little "short and stout". Handy setup.

I'm sitting here looking at that photo trying to remember what scope is one my dad's rifle. Nothing terribly expensive. A few years back, when he finally started want to use it again (after so many decades of slug gun only hunting), it didn't seem to shoot anywhere near as well as it once did. Through playing with it I concluded the old 1960's Scopechief wasn't happy anymore. So in convincing him he needed a new scope, I also talked him into getting rid of his old Holden Ironsighter see through mounts. After hearing about how great they were all my life. lol I asked him, in the 50+ years it's been on the gun, did you EVER once use the iron sights? Of course the answer was no and he relented. And later agreed the cheek weld was much better with the new mounts.

It’s always nice to see the old savages. They’re such a classic looking rifle.
This is my 1949 300 with a mid 50s scope set up.

I find pistol grips are easier for me to group.

IMO the elephant in the room is the horrible triggers the more modern model 99s can have.

I had a R that was absolutely awful.

It’s also my opinion that the model 99 needs a 300 savage cartridge.

The .308 is too much for the action.
