Did a fair amount of work on my trees this weekend and everything is about as good as it can be considering the lack of attention for the first 5 months of this year. Here you will see pics of some training efforts. For those of you who have not tried it. I like to use wire on the lower limbs and jute twine for the upper limbs. It will rot and you don't have to climb up and take it down like wire. You always need to watch the wire to make sure it does not girdle a lateral.
Here is a shot of some apples. Note the extensive damage to the lower side of the lateral. It is from last years locust. Fortunately, the damage to trees is gradually going away.
This is a photo of where the coons broke off a lateral last year trying to get locust and apples. What do you think the black coloration is indicative of?
I know it is not quite July yet, but I did some pruning of my water sprouts and it really helped get light into the fruit on my trees. I am attaching some photos from today.
