Honey berry?

Telemark

5 year old buck +
Anyone grown it? Anyone eaten it?

I just heard about it recently.

I have thought about planting a few for personal consumption, the plants are expensive so I dont see them being a wildlife planting anytime soon.

I would say the same thing as TC. Except i think you can propagate by cuttings so maybe you could buy a few and multiply. But that sounds like another hobby i don't have time for...

Same price as any other fruit/berry plant. And Gurney's had 50% off til Jan 31.

Not exactly. I'll pay $25 for an apple tree but not for a blueberry bush. I can buy named blueberry cultivars from the county conservation district, rooted cuttings 10/$25. To me, the honeyberry is just a fancy blueberry.

What is a county conservation district?

Soil and water conservation district. My county's does a spring sale of trees, shrubs, wildflower seed. Also rent equipment for planting trees and no-till drills. They do other things with landowners too like streambank erosion projects.

Most of the wildlife shrubs can be had for $1-$2 through a variety of sources.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip! I found the 2018 list for my local conservation district, and they have great prices. :emoji_grinning:
