Hay Beans

Anyone use "hay beans" in a food plot? A local co-op sells them for less than $30 for 50 lb bag. From my research they appear to be a forage bean. Just curious if anyone has any experience with them?

They probably won’t be round up ready but depending on what you’re planting them with it might not matter. Eagle beans are basically RR forage beans and I’ve planted those. Damn things were so thick a rabbit couldn’t walk through them. And they stayed green to long to plant rye into in the fall.

Those might just be eagle traits though.

I don’t know what hay beans are. I had a buddy in Illinois plant some beans that grow 6’ tall and like bill said they were so thick he didn’t get much deer use. They couldn’t penetrate the stand. He had to mow rows in there’s late summer to promote some use

Thanks for the info. I may go a different route then.

Here is a couple links for "haybeans"

Maybe those tall beans would work better if they are planted at a much smaller percentage in a plot. Maybe only 25% of the plot planted in hay beans would allow the deer access and with right amount the deer might be able to keep them browsed down to a lower height? Just a thought.
